The Best Time to Get Married in Italy: A Season-by-Season Guide

in: Wedding videography in Italy

When Is the Best Time to Get Married in Italy?

Why there isn't one perfect season for an Italian wedding

One of the questions we hear most often from couples planning a destination wedding is surprisingly simple:

"When is the best time to get married in Italy?"

The truth is that there isn't a single answer.

Italy changes dramatically throughout the year, and each season brings its own atmosphere, colours, and pace. The experience of getting married on the Amalfi Coast in late spring is completely different from celebrating among the vineyards of Tuscany in autumn or exchanging vows by the sea in Sicily at the end of summer.

After filming weddings across different regions of Italy, we've come to realise that choosing the right season is often just as important as choosing the right venue.

Spring weddings in Italy: fresh colours and perfect temperatures

From April to early June, Italy begins to bloom.

Gardens come alive, the countryside turns vibrant green, and temperatures are comfortable for both couples and guests.

Spring is particularly beautiful in Tuscany, where rolling hills and historic villas create a peaceful setting for elegant celebrations.

Along the Amalfi Coast, the season also offers softer light and quieter villages before the peak summer months arrive.

Summer: long evenings and unforgettable celebrations

Summer remains the most popular time for destination weddings in Italy, especially between June and early September.

Long days, golden sunsets and outdoor dinners make this season ideal for couples dreaming of the classic Italian celebration.

Coastal destinations truly come to life during these months. Places such as the Amalfi Coast and Sicily offer extraordinary scenery, while sea breezes help create a relaxed atmosphere that continues well into the evening.

For couples choosing iconic venues like Ravello or the coastline around Scopello, summer provides the vibrant energy many imagine when planning a wedding in Italy.

Autumn: Italy at its most authentic

If we had to choose one season that surprises international couples the most, it would probably be autumn.

September and October often bring warm weather, softer light and a slower rhythm after the busiest tourist months.

This is one of our favourite times to film weddings.

The colours become richer, sunsets feel warmer and many of Italy's most beautiful destinations become quieter, allowing couples to enjoy a more intimate experience.

Regions such as Cilento and Tuscany are particularly magical during this time of year.

Winter weddings: intimate, elegant and full of character

Although less common, winter weddings in Italy have a charm of their own.

Historic villas, boutique hotels and elegant interiors create a completely different atmosphere from the lively celebrations of summer.

For couples looking for privacy and a more intimate celebration, the winter months can become an unexpected opportunity to experience Italy from a different perspective.

Choosing the best season depends on your story

Rather than asking which season is objectively the best, we always encourage couples to ask themselves a different question.

What kind of wedding do you imagine?

Do you dream of an outdoor dinner overlooking the sea?

A countryside celebration surrounded by vineyards?

A historic villa filled with spring flowers?

Or an intimate gathering with only your closest family and friends?

The answer to those questions often leads naturally to the right season.

Our perspective as wedding videographers in Italy

Every season tells a different story.

Spring feels fresh and full of anticipation. Summer is vibrant and full of life. Autumn brings warmth and depth. Winter offers intimacy and elegance.

As wedding videographers, our role is not to make every wedding look the same, but to embrace the unique atmosphere that each season naturally creates.

That is what makes every wedding film feel personal.

Planning your destination wedding in Italy?

Whether you're dreaming of the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Sicily or the hidden beauty of Cilento, the best time to get married in Italy is ultimately the season that reflects your vision as a couple.
